The Challenge
The primary challenge was designing a high-end technology suite that offered maximum flexibility for future homeowners within the physical constraints of a new build. Specifically, we had to overcome standard BT fiber requirements that typically dictate the router’s location in the lounge.
We needed to ensure that this fixed entry point wouldn’t compromise the “smart home” infrastructure, requiring a creative cabling design to link the lounge back to a centralised utility hub while maintaining a discrete, premium aesthetic throughout the £1M+ homes.
The Result
AC Digital delivered a “turn-key” smart home solution for each property, centered around a compact 8U cabinet in the utility room. We established a 16-port PoE core network that branches out to every bedroom, study, and living space. By installing multiple RJ45 links in the lounge, we provided the flexibility to move the router beyond the fiber terminal, ensuring the network remained centralised.
Each home now features top-down WiFi coverage from attic-mounted APs, a highly reliable PoE doorbell system, and fully integrated smart heating and lighting controls—all ready for the end user at handover.
